Feature: Super Moms Face Challenges Together
When my 3-year-old threw the mother-of-all-fits in the check out line of Target a few weeks ago, I should have abandoned my shopping cart and left. Instead I tried to hold my screaming pre-schooler in one hand and place my much-needed items on the conveyer with the other. My 1st grader held the baby while I tried to keep my composure, wondering how many sympathetic eyes were on me. I could just hear the other customers thinking, “That poor woman!” On the other hand, surely there were others viewing this public tantrum and saying, “I’ve been there before.”

The modern American family has become lost in the land of technology as everyone from Mom, Grandpa, teenagers and on down to your pre-schooler, are engaged on their laptops and cell phones, working, Instant messaging, watching Hulu, or texting instead of talking. Do you remember a time when you came home from work or school, sat down for dinner and then had a rousing game of Monopoly together?

The Bloody Truth About Investing in Real Estate
Bad times typically make for good buys. Successful investors have historically made their best investments during times of market turmoil. Baron Rothschild, an 18th century British nobleman and member of the Rothschild banking family, is credited with saying that "The time to buy is when there's blood in the streets." He should know. Rothschild made a fortune buying in the panic that followed the Battle of Waterloo against Napoleon. But that's not the whole story. The original quote is believed to be "Buy when there's blood in the streets, even if the blood is your own."

India: Attractive Investment? Or Not…
The biggest slum in all of Asia, Dharavi, lies right in the heart of India’s Manhattan, Bombay. Over some 520 acres live 600,000 people, with one public toilet per 800 people. In Pursuit of Pure Science
NASA needs $2 billion dollars a year over the next 4 years to help America maintain it's leadership roll in space. As of this writing, it doesn't look like that funding is going to come through. Russia and our European allies are eager to take the lead, and plans are already in the works as this relates to the decommissioning of the Space Shuttle fleet late next year. As other countries start to take over what has traditionally been a decidedly American roll, it will be interesting to see what spin-off technologies they produce that benefit the rest of us.

Free software that actually works as good, if not better, than paid software is becoming an established trend on the internet. Exercise for Energy?
So does this sound familiar? “I know I should get up and move but I don’t feel like it.” This is all of us at one time or another. The best thing for us is to exercise the right way in the right amount. Sounds tricky huh? Many studies have shown that once a person begins to move-even just walking around the house- they will have more energy and will feel like moving more.

The Benefits of Pilates
Pilates was invented in the early 20th Century by Joseph Pilates. He combined Eastern modes of exercise such as Yoga and Tai Chi with Western practices such as aerobics and weight training to create his exercise method. The emphasis of Pilates is to lengthen and strengthen the muscles. The Pilates Body is like a dancer’s body: agile, long, lean toned and trim. Joseph Pilates promised that in ten sessions you will feel the difference. In twenty, you will see the difference and in thirty you’ll have a whole new body. Pilates benefits everyone from post-rehabilitation patients to athletes.

Screw Tops- Learn to Love ‘em
While I wait to hear back from Mr. Chris Ringland (winemaker for R Wines), let’s discuss the screw top (something you will see on many of Ringland’s wines). Screw top wines. Love them or hate them, this trend is finally starting to win over wine drinkers. I’m pleased to finally see this, as it means I don’t have to constantly tell people the advantages of screw top bottles over the traditional cork. First of all, you’re virtually guaranteed a good seal.

The Big Brewski: Savanna Dry Premium Cider
Take a look outside at your thermometer. If it’s anything like mine, it will read “stupid hot”. It should never be so hot outside that when you turn the garden hose on, you have to wait two minutes for the water to cool from a boil. It’s times like this when even a light beer can seem heavy. Believe it or not, this is when I suggest you turn to a cider. I know, it sounds risky, but you’re just going to have to trust me on this one—because we’re not just talking about any cider here.

GOLF IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES…
At least is seems like it for most golfers. You never know what you are going to get when you swing the club. You might shank it, or slice it. You might hook it, or pull it dead left. You might even take a mighty swing and whiff it, hitting nothing but thin air.

IT IS A BEAUTIFUL TIME OF THE YEAR FOR GOLF
We chatted just a bit last time about the change in the weather, and it is now here. This is the time of the year to forget about hitting the golf ball longer and simply work on your swing. I believe I shared with you that about thirty-five or so years ago I committed to hitting at least one if not two or three extra clubs into the greens. That discipline did wonders for my game.

The Smell of Autumn is in the Air!
Fall is here in Visalia, and this is, in my opinion, the very best time of the year to play golf in our area. The weather is normally absolutely perfect. Course conditions are about as good as they can ever be, and just the feel and smell of autumn in the air is a marvelous change from the intense heat of the summer. It's time to get the golf clubs out and head for the driving range or to the course to play.

Since it falls on a Saturday night this year, you have a little extra time to enjoy the dress-up part with your children.

Being Green on the Green
Growing up in Iowa, the days that you could go golfing were limited to the spring and summer months. With winter temperatures below zero, and two feet of snow in the winter, it was nearly impossible to golf year-round. Some of my die-hard golf buddies would get creative, and make golf into a winter game using florescent balls and snow shoes.
