Bartender of the Month

Cheers to Lu Ghattas of Crawdaddy’s

by Traci Myers

One thing Lu Ghattas has learned is in today’s tough economy people still like to drink!  Lu has seen little slowing in her job as bartender at Crawdaddy’s in Visalia.  “We’ve stayed pretty busy during these tough times.  Even though the economy is bad, people love to drink!”

Trends had the opportunity to talk with Lu while she was multitasking between seating customers and tending to her regulars at the bar.
TRENDS:  How long have you been bartending?
LU: For 2 ½ years.  I began working here at Crawdaddy’s since they opened…since day one!

TRENDS:  What’s your favorite part of the job?
LU:   Meeting all different types of people.  Most people are very friendly and have great personalities!
I really enjoy all of my regulars. (At this point, two of Lu’s regulars took the opportunity to speak up to let us know that the reason they keep coming back to Crawdaddy’s is because of Lu.  She always has a drink waiting when they sit down and has a smile on her face!)

TRENDS:  What do you do when you’re not bartending?
LU:  I’m a student at Fresno State working toward my teaching credential.  That is another reason why I like bartending so much…I have a flexible schedule but it also pays well and helps me through school.

TRENDS:  Do you have a speciality drink?
LU:  It’s my Red Goddess.  It’s made with X-Rated  and Hypnotic and I find that a lot of women really like it!

TRENDS:  What do you find is most challenging about bartending?
LU:  You need to be flexible and roll with the changes.  On busy days when I’m by myself, I get really focused on my job and have a serious look on my face.  I love what I am doing but my focus is on getting the customer’s order right and making them happy.  I need to remember though to always have fun!

TRENDS:  What advice would you give to a new bartender just starting out?
LU:  Start with bar backing first!  Know your drinks FIRST!  It’s much easier to move into bartending when you don’t have to think about the recipes as much.  And, learn to be good at keeping secrets!  J

Make sure to say Hi to Lu if you stop by Crawdaddy’s on a Friday or Saturday night.  You will get service with a smile!
