Subject: Hitting the Tee Shot LONG!!!

Author: dklassen  04 15th, 2009

Every body wants to be able to stick a tee in the ground, balance a golf ball nicely on top of it, and then step up and rip your tee shot a million miles down the fairway. After all, we have all seen Tiger and Phil do it. So why can’t we do the same thing?

The truth is we are not all capable of hitting the golf ball the same distance, so not all of us will hit it as far as Tiger and Phil. Nonetheless, we all would like to be able to achieve our personal maximum distance most of the time, and that is quite within the realm of possibility.

In order to make that happen consistently there are a couple of things we must address. There was no pun intended there, but the first of these things is actually our address position.

Golfers constantly ask me where in their stance they should place the golf ball. I tell them it doesn’t make a lot of difference if you are not the proper distance from the golf ball in the first place.

Most golfers stand too far from the ball at the address position. This gives them a wonderful feeling of POWER, however, we are not trying to create power when we swing a golf club. We want to create SPEED whith the club head in the golf swing. This is a major stumbling block for most golfers.

By nature golfers think power and speed are the same thing. They would never think of renting a fuel dragster in order to uproot a tree stump, nor would they ever attempt to win a race with a Catapiller tractor.

One is obviously geared for power and the other is geared for speed. There is a very definity difference between the two, yet, as golfers, we seem to lose all common sense when we have a golf club in our hands.

Speed is created with release, and the hands will not perform the release unless the arms are laying on the chest and rib cage. The human body is made this way, and none of us is capable of changing that fact.

Once the arms are laying on the chest we are not able to swing with our arms and shoulders. We can only swing the golf club with our hands and wrists–the same way ALL of the touring professionals do.

When we swing the club with our hands and wrists we will automatically develop RELEASE in our golf swing, and having a good “release” in our golf swing is the second thing we need in order to achieve our maximum potential for distance with any of our golf clubs.

In order to find your proper distance from the golf ball yoiu must take several practice swings with your eyes closed. This will, with just a small bit of proctice,  cause any club in your bag to make a small divot in the EXACT SAME PLACE every time you swing.

Now pay attention to how your arms touch your body when you take an address imagining your golf ball would have been in that divot. You will immediately notice you are closer to your ball than your normal address.
